Fresh Illusions showcases the eight 2006/2007 AHL Foundation Visual Arts Competition Award winners. AHL, a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes Korean artists living in the US , selected the artists solely on the basis of artistic excellence. The jurors, all art critics, were Saskia Bos, Eleanor Heartney, and Lilly Wei in 2006, and Robert Berlind, Marcin Ramocki, and Lilly Wei in 2007. This is the second biennial exhibition hosted by White Box.

The 2006/2007 winners demonstrate a powerful sense of experimentation while employing a diverse range of media. Many of the artists challenge formal and perceptual paradigms, while others present the experiential and the spectacular. The works range in temperament from the analytical/conceptual to the psychological/intuitive, and while some artists are inclined to a fusion of East and West, others have more or less assimilated into the American mainstream.
